Prairie Gardens and Greenhouses offers a wonderful array of school field trips, day camps, scout tours, birthday parties, farm tours, and festivals that are both educational and entertaining things to do for children and the young at heart. Fun for ages 3 to 93, our programs run from May to October each year.

Within 20 minutes of Edmonton, Alberta, Prairie Gardens offers Edmonton area families, schools and seniors groups an opportunity to expereince the country and have some great fun!

Prairie Gardens Summer Day Camps

Get outta the city! Sign up for a summer day-camp in the Edmonton countryside as a country kid!
 
Each day of this new summer day camp features a unique and exciting mix of programming. Children can be a corn maze explorer for the day, a petting farm steward in training, a junior market gardener, or just a kid in the countryside! They can go behind the scenes at Prairie Gardens and Greenhouses to assist animal care staff with feeding hay and collecting eggs, participate in fun activities like wagon rides and digging potatoes, and learn hands-on about gardening, bugs, baby bunnies, lambs, and solving the mazes.  Boys and girls will enjoy these summer day camps, and will have bushels of fun U-Picking veggies, and berries and making scarecrows!

Teddy Bear Picnics

An Awesome Countryside Activity for the Lil' Ones
(June 1 - August 30)

A picnic with neighborhood bears. Gather at Prairie Garden’s June - August under the shady apple trees with your picnic lunch, kids, and teddy bears in hand.  The day's activities include a morning of games, stories, and a hayride. 

Solve a gentle kid-size bale maze adventure, and meet the baby bunnies and sheep on the farm. Custom made picnics are available for a fee. 

 Family Fee $7.50 / person + GST.

July 13 – August 7, 2009

Enjoy a beautiful summer day during Prairie Garden’s U-Pick strawberry season with an educational and fun farm adventure. Located just 25 minutes from downtown Edmonton, our family farm provides a great interactive experience that children will long remember. The kids will take an enjoyable fun hayride through the farm to see the different crops that are growing during the season. 

Everyone can pick an in-season crop. (Berries, peas, or new potatoes.)Visit and feed the little animals in the Petting Farm. Campfire cookout sites and picnic tables are available and play areas for children are part of the fun.

Corn Maze Adventures and Campfire Cookouts at Prairie Gardens

Perfect for youth groups, Scouts, and Brownies!  Have fun getting lost adn being found in the huge 7-acre Corn Maze. The kids will also love the mini-bale mazes, and solving the Kidz Corn Maze!  Leap from the Bale Jump, sing along at a Puppet Show, pet the baby bunnies at the Petting Farm, go for a wagon ride, mine for gems in the sand, then scream your way through the frightful Haunted Farmhouse. The group rate is $7/person+GST.

When I am an old, I shall wear purple, with a red hat for glamorous shade, and I shall sip saskatoon cider with summer gloves, enjoy simple country pleasures, sample tasty treats from the garden, and dine on succulent fresh summer strawberries.

And enjoy live jazz music in the shade of the trees, visit with old friends, pick the flowers in the beautiful gardens, shop at the Red Hat gift shop, at this Edmonton countryside farm. 

The menu features regional cuisine from our gardens including baby banana potatoes, fresh summer squash, vine ripened cherry tomatoes, cucumber sandwiches, organic greens, and of course our famous award-winning homemade fresh strawberry shortcake.

Seniors Outings at Prairie Gardens

Adult & Seniors’ Tours - May ~ October

We welcome you to our farm—nestled in a scenic Sturgeon County, just 25 minutes north of Edmonton, Alberta. Prairie Gardens’ Adult & Seniors Tours are a great outing for Red Hat Clubs, Seniors’ Groups, and Retirement Lodges. Tours include a light walk and tour around the greenhouses, petting farm, garden centre. Customize your tour with a ‘people-mover’ tour around the farm to enjoy the country air and observe spring plantings, and strawberry fields. You can also choose to create a Garden Craft, Pick-Your-Own Strawberries*, or add Lunch or Strawberry Tea*.  * Extra Fees - Available seasonally.

$10 per person: Includes Lunch, Drink, Shortcake, & Guided Tour.

  • Relive your childhood as take time to ‘smell the roses’, or visit the petting farm critters, pick some berries, shoot the pumpkin cannon, get lost in a maze, touch a soft alpaca, or go for a people-mover ride around the farm!
  •  Reflect on the finer things in life as you stroll through our lovely gardens, greenhouses and gift shop. Take a minute to rest on a bench to enjoy the birds singing, the geese floating by on the farm pond, and the peacefulness that the countryside offers. Take in our farm shopping, where you will find flowers, fruit trees, homemade preserves, Red Hat gifts and more. Fresh seasonal produce: strawberries, peas, potatoes and pumpkins.
  • Relax in the shade and enjoy storytelling with our tour guides about days gone by. Take the opportunity to share your own stories.
