2009 'Cornelot' Castle
|
We are very excited to present the Largest Castle in Canada, "Cornelot" over 7 acres huge, with 4 km of trails. Click Here to see the 2009 Castle Maze Design.
The Town of Bon Accord has a sister city - Aberdeen, Scotland, for which it was named.
Our Scottish ancestry is reflected in the name 'Bon Accord', which is the motto of the City of Aberdeen meaning 'Happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again.'
The motto and nickname for Aberdeen, Scotland, is "Bon Accord" and its banner of arms contains three towers - I suspect the three towers appearing on the Bon Accord (Alberta) coat of arms are related. Settlers from eastern Canada, United States of America, Great Britain, and Scotland settled here as early as 1892.
We have captured the essence of the castle towers in the maze to celebrate Albertan’s hospitality, 'Happy to meet, sorry to part, happy to meet again.' as well as the magic of our Alberta-style Halloween celebration at Prairie Garden’s “Haunted Pumpkin Festival” with a Pumpkin Fairy Childs Maze, and naturally, several bats!

How to Conquer the Maze Tips
|
People have been trying to conquer mazes for centuries, dating back to 2400 BC. Now it’s your turn!
Initial Challenge: Here’s your map to the maze—easy, right? Your mission is to find the five clues in the maze with the secret codes to find your way out. Requires map reading, teamwork, and persistence. Time required: approximately 45 minutes to one hour (could be more if you are navigationally-challenged...)
Secret Locations: Try to find the thirteen more secret locations in the maze—they are not shown on the map, and finding them requires strategy and stamina. Only about 2% of maze visitors can find all—are you up to the challenge? Complete the passport map for a piece of candy and Enter to Win Great Prizes at the Garden Centre!! Time required: 1 - 2 hours, some take several days...
The super secret complete map (folded shut) and not to be opened except in case or dire emergency.
Alternate ways to enjoy the maze: Got younger children or adults who aren't up to the challenge? Take the Pumpkin Maze route (15 minute maze), visit the bridge, or stroll around ! Bail out when you get tired of looking at corn or when the whining starts...
A whole lot of myths are out there about how to solve a maze. Lend an EAR… (Sorry, corny joke...) Here are a few tips.
Tip # 1. No path should be used more than twice. Except the main corridor between phases.
Tip # 2. If you arrive at a choice of ways you have never visited before, it does not matter which one you take.
Tip #3.When a new path leads you to a junction of ways you HAVE visited before, or into a dead end, retrace your steps to where you entered it.
Tip # 4. When an old path leads you to a junction of ways you HAVE visited before, take a new path, if possible. If not, take any of the others.
Tip # 5. There are 5 phases in the maze.
- #1= Red
- #2= Green
- #3= Blue
- #4= Purple
- #5= Pink
Tip #6 There's a special prize for those persistent enough to find ALL the secret locations in the maze.
Now GET LOST! Don't worry, we find all visitors on November 2, when we bale up the maze!
Maze Rules:
- Do not touch the corn. Not the stalks, not the cobs, not the leaves…it’s bad karma, and the corn leaves are SHARP- the corn will get’cha!
- No referring to the map-reader as "a senseless moron who couldn't find his way out of a paper bag."
- Persons under sixteen must be with a parent in the maze. Irresponsible adults must also be with a mature person, or may be left in the ticket area for monitoring by our staff.
- NO CUTTING THROUGH THE CORN--VIOLATORS WILL BE BANISHED FROM THE MAZE (seriously!) The ‘Dark Knights of the Corn’ are poised to respond to a corn emergency post haste and to banish the perpetrators from the field.
- ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING

Visit to A Corn Maze Helpful Hints
- The cornfield is flat and the trails are hard packed dirt. The walking surfaces can be slightly uneven and can get slippery after a rain.
-
Take water into the maze with you, especially on hot days. Use the bathroom before you go - there are no "facilities" in the maze.
-
Groups of three to six people work well in the maze - that way, everyone can have a chance to participate. If you have a larger group, consider splitting into smaller groups and see who can find their way out first.
-
Time your group through the maze—let us know your time and we'll tell you how you rank.
- Each group gets a super secret complete map folded shut and not to be opened except in case or dire emergency.
- All terrain strollers work well in the maze. Bring your own or we have a few for visitors to use. You can bring a wagon to pull younger children in if you like.
