Is Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm a Working family farm?
Yes! The land was first homesteaded by Florence and Franklin Pearce in 1898. The Chedzoys established Prairie Gardens as a tree nursery and garden center in 1956. John Chedzoy was well known for his work in implementing the Alberta Tree Nursery shelterbelt program across the province!
Tam Andersen started growing bedding plants in 1984, when she became the head horticulturalist in the greenhouse operation. She and her husband, Terry are farmers and currently grow 20 acres of local food, including pumpkin & strawberry patches, market garden vegetables, and 2000 acres of traditional agricultural crops of peas, canola, wheat and specialty grass seed in the Bon Accord area.
Spring bedding plant and flowering plants are grown from scratch in the greenhouses from January to June, where you will find unique and beautiful containers, hardy fruit trees, and flowers on display and for sale at the garden centre.

Are There U-pick Strawberries & Vegetables at Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm?
Pick-Your-Own strawberries, peas, and baby potatoes are ready by mid-July. In August, zucchini, beans, and swiss chard are ready. Sweet corn is ripe by September. We grow 10 acres of pumpkins, which are hand harvested, displayed on straw bales and for sale in cozy warm greenhouses during October.

Is Overnight camping available at Prairie Gardens Adventure Farm?
- Sorry, no. We offer campfire - firepit sites for group gatherings which can be reserved in advance.
- Special arrangements can be made for Family Reunions. Please inquire.

When it rains, does it get muddy at Prairie Gardens & Adventure Farm?
We are a working farm. Most surfaces here are dirt. Some walking areas are gravelled, but nothing is paved. Any time water mixes with dirt you will have mud. Depending how long and how hard it has rained determines how muddy conditions are here at the farm. Strawberry rows have plenty of clean straw between the rows for rainy days. Come dressed accordingly if the weather has been wet. Usually backyard sneakers are adequate.

Do I need to bring a flashlight for the Flashlight Maze?
We recommend that you bring your own flashlights when coming for our Flashlight Maze. However if you should forget to bring one, we do sell them and you can purchase one when you arrive. We also have cool glow products available for purchasing. |

CAN I BRING FOOD TO THE PUBLIC CAMPFIRE ON FLASHLIGHT NIGHTS AT THE MAZE?
We sell wieners, buns, & marshmallows to roast over the bonfire. If you would like to bring your own food, we have private campfires that can be rented. See the campfire page for more details.

ARE YOU WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE?
Yes, partially. The farm and corn mazes areas are mostly wheelchair accessible, however we are a working farm. Expect farm terrain, dirt trails, gravelled or grass parking areas. Weather is a factor, as there is no pavement except for concrete walkways in the greenhouses. We do have 2 handicap access port-a-potties.
Please note: The Haunted House and Ghost Town buildings are not wheelchair accessible.
We are usually able to accommodate school groups with wheel chairs for farm wagon / train rides.

DOES PRAIRIE GARDENS & ADVENTURE FARM CLOSE IF IT RAINS OR SNOWS?
Yes, we do sometimes. It depends on how hard and long it has rained or snowed. Safety is important to us as well as your enjoyment while here. These are the two key issues in deciding. If you are traveling a distance and there is a chance for a downpour or it has snowed 6 inches or more the night before, you might be wise to reschedule for another day. We will issue rain-checks for families during unexpected cloudbursts or thunderstorms.

DO YOU SUPPORT LOCAL CHARITIES?
Yes! We support the Edmonton Youth Emergency Shelter Society, and the Wildlife Rehabilitation Society of Edmonton with regular fundraisers. We also support up to 50 community groups, youth programs, and societies in the region. To inquire about a sponsorship opportunity, please click here for more information. Our sponsorship committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month.

CAN I BRING MY PET?
Sorry, we do not allow pets or alcohol on site. Exceptions will be made for service dogs. Please leave your pet at home, as there is no shade in the parking area for your pet to stay in the vehicle.

Is the big maze ok for small children?
We recommend that families with small children try the children's maze, a shorter 15 minute version within the larger maze. You may also try the Kidz Maze located in the Kids Zone. It is a much simpler maze and only takes 10 minutes. The bale maze is also lots of fun for the little ones!

Can my children come to the farm by themselves?
- Anyone under the age of 15 must have an accompanying adult.
- Youth & children may not be dropped off at the maze for flashlight adventures without supervision.

CAN I HAVE A BIRTHDAY PARTY AT THE FARM?
Yes! We have several different Birthday Packages to choose from. There are boys, girls, or youth programs, as well as family reunions and retirement parties. Please inquire.

WHEN WILL IT BE STRAWBERRY SEASON AT PRAIRIE GARDENS?
We expect strawberries to ripen around the middle of July, but the season can vary by a week depending on the weather. This year, the season is about a week late. WHEN WILL PRAIRIE GARDENS' GIANT CORN MAZE OPEN?
The Giant Corn Maze will open on August 4th this season. We plant a field of corn each season, and cut a new pattern into it so it becomes the world's largest interactive puzzle. The corn grows about a foot a week through July - so it reaches about 6 feet tall by the first of August. The Kidz Corn Maze opens July 15th, as it is OK to be shorter.

WHAT ARE YOUR USUAL HOURS OF OPERATION?
Please check here for our seasonal hours from April - December. The Adventure Farm is closed from Dec 25 - March 30 except for group outings and workshops. The office remains open on regular work days through the winter.
